I’m a chef and the way to make perfect roasties is to cook them in mayonnaise’

Chef influencer Eitan Bernath has shared his controversial hack for making the perfect roast potatoes – by cooking them in full fat mayonnaise and seasoning

Christmas is just a few days away, and that means it’s not long until we’ll be able to munch down on that delicious festive dinner we’ve been waiting for all year long.

Some people are all about the pigs in blankets, others are turkey obsessed, but for many of us, the highlight of a Christmas dinner – or any roast dinner for that matter – is the roast potatoes.

Everyone has their own take on how the perfect roasties should be made; whether it’s using goose fat, triple roasting them, or even using a certain type of potato, one chef reckons he’s hacked it – although we’re not so sure.

Chef influencer Eitan Bernath ( @eitan ) reckons he’s found the simplest way to create the perfect roasties, using a rather unusual ingredient: mayonniase.

Yep, rather controversially, Eitan cooks roast potatoes by slathering his tatties with full fat mayo, before adding seasoning, such as pepper, garlic, paprika and fresh parsley, before banging it in the oven for 20 minutes.

He claims this cooking method creates roasties which are “perfectly soft and pillowy on the inside, crunchy on the outside and full of flavour.”

You’ve got to admit it’s a little bizarre, but given that the main ingredient of mayonnaise is oil, it does make a lot more sense when you think about it.

One TikTok user commented: “I must say I judged at the beginning, didn’t trust the process, but now you’ve got me likeā€¦” alongside the hungry emoji.

“People are forgetting what mayonnaise actually is, it 100 percent makes sense,” another added.
